I’m a father first and a photographer second, and the two turned out to be the same job. I started making pictures of my own daughter on ordinary mornings — breakfast, the walk to the car, the shirt she refused to take off — and found that those were the frames we returned to years later.
So that is how I work with other families. I don’t pose people or ask them to look here. I follow the rhythm of a morning at home or an hour outside, stay quiet, and photograph what is already there.
Where I work
Most of my sessions happen in Seattle and across the Eastside — Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, and Mercer Island — in homes, on familiar walks, and in the places a family already spends its weekends.
What I care about
That the photographs leave the hard drive. Prints in the rooms where your days actually happen, so a child can carry one to school when they miss home.
